Netsocket’s Virtual Edge solution now delivers cloud-based, Automated Application Delivery (AAD) of a wide range of open-source and commercially available virtualized applications. 

Virtual Edge is capable of automated service creation, delivery, management and orchestration of qualified third party applications called vApps, which significantly broadens the service catalogue that MSPs can offer their customers.  All applications, both networking and non-networking, are hosted on the Virtual Edge’s MicroCloud Server, a commodity x86 platform.

How easy can it be?   The service desk personnel for Virtual Edge simply chooses an application for the remote site using the vNetCommander cloud-based management system.  vNetCommander creates the virtual machine application “container”, and then installs, configures and wires the application in minutes with zero touch by the end user or the service provider.  Applications can be pre-installed or downloaded later at any time.   Virtual Edge remains loosely coupled to the 3rd party applications, providing a portal to the application’s native configuration tools for any advanced configuration requirements.

The Netsocket Virtual Edge implementation is the most cost effective, flexible approach available for distributed enterprise networks. Virtual Edge centralizes and automates enterprise-wide network management workflows through its cloud-based lifecycle management application that provides authenticated access through a browser.

Virtual Edge eliminates the need for expensive, special-purpose router hardware. All networking functions including routing, L2/L3 switching, firewall and tunnels are completely virtualized, allowing them to be hosted on commodity X86 MicroCloud servers at each site. These servers may be used to host other site-virtualized applications such as LTE backup, Wi-Fi, session border controller, voice services, and more. Whether the enterprise network is managed by internal staff or through a trusted Managed Service Provider (MSP), the Netsocket approach drastically reduces total cost of ownership, delivering a 10:1 reduction in operational costs over legacy edge network solutions.

MicroCloud servers running NVN’s virtualized components are distributed at each enterprise branch or location. A single controller (vFlowController) is installed at the data center while the data plane component, (vFlowSwitch) is hosted at each site.   The controller plus the many site virtual switches work together to behave as a single highly distributed router, and is managed as such through a single pane of glass cloud-based management system.

Ironclad inter-site security and privacy is provided through a set of fully-meshed encrypted tunnels between sites as well as stateful firewall access control lists (ACLs). End-to-end QoS is enabled through policing, priority queuing and rate limiting. Interoperability with legacy router components through routing protocols (OSPF/BGP/static/default) allows an at-your-pace, site-to-site infrastructure migration schedule. A full range of edge routing and LAN features including network address translation (NAT), port forwarding and network access control (NAC) are available. All of these features and capabilities are tailored to enterprise campus and remote branch office requirements.
